Houston Golf Association has three special awards named after members who set the standard as dedicated volunteers. They are the Earl Elliott HGA Member of the Year, Terry Russ Shell Houston Open Service Award and the Paul Wahlberg Service Award. The HGA Member of the Year Award honors the overall dedication to all facets of the organizations activities displayed by Elliott, who was named the PGA TOUR national volunteer of the Year in 2001. Elliott was a past president of the organization. (Past Elliott Award Winners List) The Shell Houston Open Service Award honors the special kind of effort displayed by Russ for more than 40 years during tournament week. Russ is a past president of the organization. (Past Russ Award Winners List) The Wahlberg Service Award is bestowed on an individual who has made significant contrubtions to the community-at-large, the game of golf or the Houston Golf Association. Wahlberg is a past Tournament Chairman of the Shell Houston Open (1970) and served for many years as the head of the Charity Selection Committee for HGA. An architect by profession, Wahlberg became identified with the organization's penchant for community service and charitable giving. (Past Wahlberg Award Winners)
