2005 Championship Jerry Hudgins coaxed in a 10-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to defeat Bob W. Smith in sudden-death at the 2005 Greater Houston Men's Senior City Amateur Championship at Memorial Park Golf Course. Both players finished regulation at 1-under-par 143 in the 36-hole tournment for golfers 55 and up conducted by the Houston Golf Association.
Hudgins nursed a one shot lead going into the final hole but carded a bogey to finish the day at even-par 72. Smith fired a 3-under-par 69 deadlock with Hudgins, who had shared the first-round lead with David Moore and Ivan Lawson. Defending champion Robert McKinney match ed Smith's 69 to climb into a tie for fifth place after an opening 81.
Dan McGuire of Humble shot 72-73 to finish alone in third.
In the Super Senior Division for golfers 65 and up Lance Sims repated as champion. Sims shot 74 for a 146 total to take a three-shot win over Tom Mattox of Humble, the only Super Senior competitor to match par 72 on Sunday. First-round co-leader Charlie Milstead finished alone in third at 153 after an 81
